Current Domestic Threat Assessment

Assessment: SEVERE. Active military operations against a state actor with confirmed proxy group retaliation across multiple theaters.

Situation Summary

On 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel launched joint strikes against Iran (U.S. codename: Operation Epic Fury). Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed killed. As of 01 March, CENTCOM reports 1,000+ targets struck across Iran. Three U.S. service members have been killed in action, five seriously wounded. Iran has retaliated with missile and drone strikes against U.S. bases, Israel, and eight Arab nations. The Strait of Hormuz has been declared closed by Iran.

Domestic Threat Indicators

Austin, TX Mass Shooting (01 MAR): Gunman identified as Ndiaga Diagne, 53, wore clothing with Islamic and Iranian imagery. FBI investigating potential terrorism nexus. 2 killed, 14 injured.

Proxy Group Activation: Iraqi Kataib Hezbollah, Houthis, and Lebanese Hezbollah have all publicly committed to retaliatory operations. Counterterrorism analysts warn of potential sleeper cell activation in Western countries.

State Response: Texas Governor activated Operation Fury Shield (DPS and National Guard). DHS threat level expected to increase. FPCON adjustments anticipated at federal installations nationwide.

Cyber Threats: IRGC-affiliated cyber groups (APT33, APT42) have historically probed U.S. critical infrastructure. Retaliatory cyber operations against utilities, financial systems, and government networks remain a possibility.

Recommended Security Posture Enhancements

Physical Security (Immediate): Increase security officer presence at entry points. Implement bag and vehicle checks at high-profile facilities.

Access Control (Immediate): Review and restrict visitor access policies. Verify credentials at all entry points. Consider temporary badge escort requirements.

Surveillance (High): Increase CCTV monitoring frequency. Conduct perimeter sweeps at irregular intervals. Brief officers on suspicious vehicle and person indicators.

Incident Response (Immediate): Review and brief active threat response protocols. Verify emergency notification systems. Confirm law enforcement liaison contacts.

Personnel (High): Brief all security staff on the elevated threat environment. Review post orders for threat-specific guidance. Increase shift overlap during high-traffic periods.

Cyber Awareness (Moderate): Verify phishing awareness among staff. Confirm backup procedures for critical systems. Restrict USB and external device use.
